Great Product & Easy to Work With (Barnwood Bartop)EASE OF USE: This was the first time we worked with a resin of any type and the online research made this sound more intimidating than it really was. We built a bar top out of reclaimed barn wood and the EPOX-IT 80 product was amazingly easy to work with. The epoxy had the right consistency to “flow” it over the top and allowed us enough time to work with it. We initially purchased this product based on the other reviews and all of the five star reviews are dead on – this is easy to work with on all accounts. The product flowed slowly enough to allow the drips on the edges to be knocked down with a foam brush and keeping the floor clean (we still used non-porous drop cloths).BUBBLES & DUST: We know that a major issue people have with working with epoxy is getting a perfectly smooth finish. The best advice we have after four coats is to mix the two parts slowly to minimize air bubbles and keep a heat torch handy. It does sound a bit scary to take a torch to a freshly poured epoxy (the thought of a fire crossed my mind) but as long as you keep it moving, the bubbles disappear like magic. We did find that once we smoothed out a pour, it was a bit easier to wait about ten minutes to allow the bubbles to rise to the top and for the product to self-level. We have heard horror stories about static attracting dust onto a wet epoxy but we did not have that issue with the EPOX-IT 80.FINAL COVERAGE: We ultimately ended up needing more product than estimated for the two bar tops (43 sq ft) since some poured through the holes, cracks and gaps in the 130-year old barn wood. In hindsight, we should have reached out for advice before the first coat but after a call to the company, we were able to get some help with the “holes”. Once finished, we ended up pouring on four thin coats for a perfect, high-gloss finish as you can see in the photos.COMPANY: Another plus was the support from Specialty Resin & Chemical. We did have several questions after the first coat since we were working with old barn wood with holes, cracks and gaps. The folks at Specialty Resin were extremely helpful in addressing the issues we had with those drips and runs. They were extraordinary!!RECOMMENDATIONS: We would highly recommend EPOX-IT 80 for any novice and pro for their epoxy needs. It was easy to work with, the company support was great and the final finish definitely gets attention.
