The media could not be loaded. Before the Doppleganger cotton filter bag I tried a hemp filter bag, this one has a noticeably finer weave. If you have ever used a french press then you know the trade off – Things that filter out more sediment produce a different and usually somewhat weaker flavor since they filter out more of the natural oils from the beans (And keep in mind that cold brewing already requires more grounds to get the same strength of coffee that you would get from brewing it hot). While I like the taste of less filtered coffee there is a point where the sediment is too annoying to be worth it, and I’d imagine that point will be different for every person. These filter bags did an excellent job of filtering out almost all the sediment and surprisingly the flavor was actually just as good and maybe even a bit better than the hemp filter bags I tried before (which left almost a half inch of sediment in the bottom of my pitcher). They seem to be of good construction as well, and I’d imagine will last me quite awhile. I would highly recommend trying these filter bags for making cold brewed coffee, even if your a person who normally will put up with a lot of sediment in your coffee for the arguably better flavor that less thorough filtering provides.(Update) Having used the bags a few times now, I have some advice:I can’t claim credit for this idea, as I saw it on the instruction for another filter bag, but turn the bag inside out before you use it so the seams are on the outside. It makes it easier to clean afterwards. And on the subject of cleaning the bags I’d say the easiest way of cleaning them is to dump as much of the coffee grounds as you can into the garbage as soon as you take the bag out of whatever pitcher/container you were cold brewing the coffee in. Then let it sit somewhere to dry ( if your in a big hurry you could put a small fan on it). Once it’s completely dry you’ll find it much easier to shake the remaining grounds out before rinsing the bag, and trust me, you don’t want to make a habit of washing any amount of coffee grounds down a sink drain.
